Welcome to the City of Mountain View’s Web Site:

This is the City's key link to important information about the Mountain View community and all that the City has to offer to residents, business, and visitors alike.

Mountain View is ideally situated in the heart of Silicon Valley.  It is home to just under 75,000 residents and is known for its diverse community and great quality of life.  We are a vibrant community of good schools, safe neighborhoods, and excellent public facilities and amenities, including over 35 parks (with two more underway) and an extensive trail system.  The City has a wide spectrum of businesses, including many nationally and internationally known high-tech corporations and institutions.  Mountain View enjoys a rich offering of cultural events, the Center for the Performing Arts, the Mountain View Public Library, live music at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, and Thursday Nights Live, as well as an annual Art & Wine Festival, A La Carte and Art Festival, the Annual Spring Downtown Parade, and a weekly Farmer's Market in a rich and diverse Downtown Mountain View.

Looking Ahead to the Challenges and Opportunities for 2012:

Mountain View’s critical goal for 2012 remains maintaining and enhancing the City’s overall fiscal health and sustainability while continuing to provide essential public services and meeting new challenges.  Other important challenges extending into the New Year include adopting the new General Plan, continuing implementation of economic development strategies and ensuring that Mountain View continues to be a diverse and vibrant community we all cherish.

The City Council has previoulsy adopted its goals for FY 2011-12 and will adopt its goals for FY 2012-13 in the Spring, but I am personally committed to the following:

  • Increasing the level of civic engagement by members of our community, utilizing technology wherever possible.
  • Continuing strong support for the Healthy Eating Active Living and Lets Move campaigns to encourage healthier lifestyles for City employees and the entire community.

Despite a protracted economic recovery, adverse rulings by the California Supreme Court relating to our Downtown Revitalization District and continued financial constraints, I believe we can advance our progress on these goals.

  • Through continued effort we can preserve and enhance the high quality of life in Mountain View that is characteristic of our community. Our hard work as a City and as a community, in meeting the demanding budget challenges and difficult decisions of recent years, has helped to ensure a sustainable City, one that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.
  • The City aims to make strategic investments in the future of our community, developing new parks, expanding the Stevens Creek and Permanente Creek trails, and upholding our commitment to preserving our prized open spaces.
  • Mountain View is also committed to preserving the livable neighborhoods that lend to our diverse, vibrant community while at the same time offering an attractive business base.
  • We are proud of our committed and involved citizenry ready to invest time and energy in making even better than it is—we look forward to a fruitful 2011.
