Residential and Commercial Water Rates

Calculate Your Monthly Water Usage

Last months's reading - This month's reading = Monthly usage

Understanding Your Water Bill
Water rates for both residential and commercial customers are based on billing units (One billing unit = 748 gallons) and billing tiers. Please follow this link for an explanation of the information on the bill.

  • Reference the appropriate customer sections below for calculation details.
  • Each tier builds on the preceding tier, so your water bill is commensurate to your water use.
  • Water conservation is encouraged. Lower water usage will result in lower water bills.

Contacts

  • If you have any questions related to your utility bill, please contact the Finance and Administrative Services Department at 650/903-6317.
  • For information about water quality, leak detection, sewer maintenance, or nonpoint source pollution control, contact the Public Services Department at 650/903-6329.

Residential Customers
  • The first three (3) units of usage per month will be billed at the lowest tier 1 rate.
  • If your usage exceeds three (3) units but is less than twenty-five (25) units, these additional units will be billed at the tier 2 rate.
  • If your household uses more than twenty-five units or 625 gallons of water a day, you may fall into all three tiers.
  • A single 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch meter serving multi-residential units will pay the rates listed for twice the amount of water.
  • The flat meter charge for a 5/8 inch and 3/4 inch meter is an additional $6.75 per month.
The first three (3) units of usage per month will be billed at the lowest tier 1 rate.
