Security Inspections

The police department offers free security inspections for all residences and businesses in Mountain View. Highly-trained MVPD volunteers and department members (all have passed extensive background investigations) deliver these services. When requested, the inspectors visit your home or business to provide recommendations on making it a safe and secure place.

Police inspections are by appointment only. Do not admit anyone who comes to your door, if you do not have an appointment. Inspectors arrive in a marked police department vehicle. If you're not certain the person at your door is our inspector, don't let him or her in. Call MVPD first.

Inspections normally last 45 minutes to one hour. The inspector will examine your home or business, from both the inside and outside, explaining their findings and answering your questions. Inspections include checks for:
  • Window- and door-locking devices
  • Lighting
  • Outside security
  • Plus many other areas of concern
Participants receive a written report approximately one week after the inspection.
