Public Works

The Public Works Department plans, designs, reviews, constructs, operates, maintains and improves the City's infrastructure, facilities, utilities, property and equipment and provides other services, including solid waste management (recycling and garbage), traffic engineering and private develop­ment permits.

The Transportation and Business Services Division consists of Transportation Management, Property Management, Environmental Sustainability and Solid Waste Management (recycling, garbage and zero waste).  

The Engineering Division consists of Construction Engineering, Design Engineering, Capital Projects, Traffic Engineering and Land Development Engineering.

The Public Services Division manages, operates and maintains the water distribution, wastewater and storm systems, streets, street lights, and closed landfill.

US -101 AUXILIARY LANES PROJECT
Begininning late Feburary 2012, weather permitting, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will partner with Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) to reduce congestion along a 3.2 mile segment of U.S. 101 between State Route 85 in Mountain View and Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto.
