The timeline for completion of the Pedestrian Master Plan (PMP) is dependent on the City's General Plan 2030. The Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (B/PAC) provided input on the proposed recommendations for the draft PMP at its November 16, 2011 meeting. On May 16, 2012, the Council Transportation Committee (CTC) reviewed the draft PMP and recommended City Council approve the document when it is presented to Council later this summer in conjunction with the adoption of the GP 2030.
Background
The City Council adopted its first Environmental Sustainability Action Plan (ESAP) in March 2009 to serve as a road map for achieving the City's short- and long-term sustainability goals. One of the initiatives included in the 2009 ESAP was the preparation, adoption and implementation of a Pedestrian Master Plan (PMP).
The Mountain View Draft PMP is a City-wide policy document with pedestrian-oriented policies and guidelines that builds upon the City's successful pedestrian planning efforts and provides tools for future improvements. This is the City's first PMP and an important implementation tool for the City's 2030 General Plan. The PMP expands upon the 2030 General Plan mobility goals by promoting alternatives to the automobile, pedestrian use and vitality of public spaces, and community interaction throughout Mountain View.
The Draft PMP was developed in conjunction with several recent key planning efforts. In the spring and summer of 2008, a City-wide process was conducted to engage community members and key stakeholders in crafting a vision for the City's future. The vision process was the starting point for the coordinated 2030 GP update and the PMP efforts which have developed concurrently since 2009. |
